Funding Windows Open for **Non-Profits** in South Africa 2026/27: Grant Calls, Closing Dates and Who May Apply

A living table of grant calls open to non-profit organisations, PBOs and community-based organisations in South Africa: closing dates, what each funder offers, who may apply, and the official source.

Updated as windows open and close.

Most grant funding for non-profit organisations in South Africa arrives in **windows**. A foundation, a community trust or an embassy opens a call, sets a closing date, and then closes until its next round. The calls do not open at the same time, and many of them are published only on the funder's own site, so a small organisation can miss a window that was made for it. This page gathers the calls currently open to non-profit organisations, public benefit organisations and community-based organisations in one table, with the closing date, what the funder offers, who may apply, and the official source for every row. It is updated as windows open and close. Two kinds of funding are kept on sister pages. **Grants for small businesses** are on the [business funding windows page](https://bighearts.africa/news/business-funding-windows), kept by Bighearts Africa. **SETA discretionary grants** for training, some of which are open to non-profits, are on the [SETA discretionary-grant windows page](https://mogapi.africa/news/seta-discretionary-grant-windows), kept by Mogapi Africa. > **Key facts (as at 24 October 2026)** > - **Nine** grant calls open to non-profit organisations are listed below. > - The first to close is a community trust's call for organisations in **Sundays River Valley and Nelson Mandela Bay**, on **26 October 2026 at 17:00** (Knowledge Pele's request for proposals, October 2026). > - **Three close on 31 October 2026**: the Amandla Omoya, Sibona Ilanga and Letsatsi Borutho community trusts, each for organisations in the communities around a wind or solar farm (the trusts' own calls for proposals, September 2026). > - The JET Funding Platform's Window 4, for community agriculture and food-system projects that turn waste into value, takes expressions of interest until **5 November 2026**, for projects of **R500,000 to R20 million**; up to 35 shortlisted applicants are matched with grant funders (JET Funding Platform, EOI document, October 2026). > - The UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme call for the Northern Cape closes on **5 November 2026** and offers up to **US$30,000** a project (UNDP South Africa, 12 October 2026). > - Gauteng's library reading-programme funding for NPOs runs to **7 November 2026**, a Saturday; proposals are hand-delivered, so in practice the last day is **Friday 6 November** (Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, October 2026). > - The DG Murray Trust window and the German Missions Micro-Projects Scheme both close on **30 November 2026**; the German scheme funds up to **EUR 25,000** a project (DGMT; German Embassy Pretoria, September 2026). > - Every row links to the funder's own notice. Dates and conditions are the funder's; confirm them on the source before you apply. ## Open Funding Windows for Non-Profit Organisations Dates are taken from each funder's own notice. A closed call stays in the "Recently closed" line under the table for a few weeks so its status is clear. Where a call is limited to a district or a set of towns, the row says so, because most community-trust calls are. | Funder and call | Closes | What it offers | Who may apply | Source | |---|---|---|---|---| | Community trust managed by Knowledge Pele, request for NPO proposals (Sundays River Valley and Nelson Mandela Bay) | 26 Oct 2026, 17:00 (the request's body; its header says 6 Nov, so plan for 26 Oct) | Funding for projects with a 12-month budget in job creation, education and skills development, youth development, health and safety, food security and SMME development, with disability inclusion across all of them | Registered NGOs and NPOs with two or more years' work in Sundays River Valley or Nelson Mandela Bay.
